Well, it's been ages since I've felt like posting on here. Writers block stopped me for a couple of months; it didn't matter what I tried to write it just sounded absolutely awful so I gave up and took a break. I guess I owe a close friend from work a big thank you for helping me get over it.
A couple of weeks ago I was invited along by a colleague and friend from work to a workshop on horror writing. To be fair, I didn't expect a huge amount from the group but I couldn't have been more wrong. I came away feeling for the first time in months like I could start something and finish it and that with luck it might actually be one of the best pieces I've written for ages. I might even post it on here (or at least a bit of it!) when it's finished.
So why life getting in the way if I've finally got over my prolonged bout of writers block? well, the truth is things at home have taken a bit of a nosedive and the relationship with the young lady I live with has deteriorated beyond the point where it can be saved so I'm having to look for a new home which is proving harder and more expensive than anticipated. I also have a dog to consider which makes finding somewhere to rent a little hard so I guess the writing will take a bit of a backseat until life is more settled again. Having said that, I damn well am going to finish this story before I move in a few weeks so I'll keep you posted!
Now for the review bit. Unfortunately I haven't read many new books lately. In fact I've been quite lazy re-reading old ones and sticking to the same authors, Clive Cussler and Manda Scott, both great authors but not new and exciting. What I will say is that I have been following the Games workshop Horus Heresy series and I've been pleasantly surprised so far by the quality and story lines despite the fact they've reached 8 novels with more still to come. you need to have a bit of background knowledge but otherwise they're actually a pretty good read for any sci-fi fan.
Till next time!
